Eight days after winning the first of the Tokyo throws. China unexpectedly won the last. Xu Demei chose the best possible time to throw a personal best of 68.78: the first round of the final. Meier-Felke – the Rome silver medallist – threatened with 68.68 in the second round. but these two proved to be the only 68m+ efforts of the day.
