Overview by IAAF
Fastest in the heats was Susanna Kallur with 12.66, while four women found sub-13 clockings insufficient for advancement. The first semi saw defending champion Perry run 12.55 ahead of 2003 winner Felicien. A feature of Perry’s running in Osaka was her reactions at the start, and in the final she excelled herself with a time of 0.105 seconds. Nevertheless it was Kallur who was the early leader. The Swede led until the eighth hurdle when Perry inadvertently impeded Kallur at the last by drifting into Kallur’s lane. The Swedish management did not protest as there was no photographic evidence available within the allowable protest period. While Kallur had been slightly ahead at the ninth hurdle, Perry was leading as they crossed the final barrier, and Felicien and Ennis-London edged past Kallur on the run-in, with just 0.02 covering this trio. The times for fifth to eighth were the best ever in any race, and both Kallur and Dixon ran lifetime bests.
