The top teams were evenly-matched on the first leg of the final, with Williams and Brooks both clocked in 11.05 by the Biomechanics Team of IAAF and JAAF. Felix opened up a gap of a metre on Stewart, and the US lead was increased on the third leg as Barber gained a further metre on Facey. Edwards (10.21) held off Campbell (10.06) by half a metre, though Campbell was closing in rapidly on the American at the finish. Britain led the chasing group at the final exchange, but Gevaert took Belgium from sixth to third with a stirring anchor leg of 10.17. | |||
