Overview by IAAF
McLellan was off best in the final, and led until for four hurdles, then the Jamaicans edged ahead. First Ennis-London (6.50 at hurdle five), then Foster-Hylton (7.46 at the sixth). Foster-Hylton continued to lead for the rest of the race, though Lopes-Schliep and Ennis-London ate into her advantage on the run-in. She later revealed that she had her eyes closed after the last hurdle to help focus her effort. The favourite Harper – who ran 12.48 in the semi-finals – was out of the reckoning after losing her balance when clipping the second hurdle. In contrast, O’Rourke had the race of her life, setting a national record in placing fourth. Foster-Hylton did not believe she had won until the result flashed up on the scoreboard an minute or so after the finish. Then came hysterical celebrations with her compatriot when Ennis-London was confirmed in third place.
