Overview by IAAF
It was Montsho and Felix who had dominated the world scene with seven IAAF Diamond League wins between them. Felix, drawn inside Montsho, led at 100m, but Montsho drove hard down the back straight and led by a metre at 200m. The Commonwealth Champion then increased her lead slightly on the second curve, passing 300m in 35.7, 0.2 ahead of Felix, with McCorory third in 36.1. The two leaders drew away from the rest down the final straight, with Felix edging ever closer to Montsho. After a terrific battle, the Botswanan reached the haven of the tape some 30cm ahead. Former champion Ohuruogu was disqualified for false starting in round one. In 2017, it was confirmed that Kapachinskaya had failed a re-test of her doping samples from the Beijing Olympics and Daegu 2011. All her results since August 17, 2008 were declared invalid. Besides her Daegu bronze, she lost her seventh place from Berlin 2009 and Russia were stripped of relay medals from both championships.
