Overview by IAAF | |||
In a competition enjoyed more than any other by a boisterous crowd, three women cleared more than 4.80 for the first time in a championship. Poor Spiegelburg was left empty-handed despite being clean up to and including 4.75. At 4.82, the three medallist emerged as the German was eliminated. Both Suhr and Isinbaeva cleared on their second attempts, and Silva had the best clearance of the three with her final jump. Isinbaeva began the jumping at 4.89 with a clearance which was worth 5.00. Suhr and Silva each had good jumps, but the gold belonged to Isinbaeva – her ninth global title. | |||
