Overview by IAAF | |||
Cai led the field through halfway in 40:20, from a group of a dozen, including world record holder Suzuke, who dropped out shortly after that point. Another Chinese, Wang, was the leader at 15Km (59:53), some 11 seconds ahead of López. The Chinese had received two warnings, and had to be careful to avoid disqualification. López duly zipped past Wang at the 17Km mark, and went on to win by 15 seconds, having saved his fastest 5Km portion of 19:10 for the final quarter of the race. Fastest finisher of all was the surprising Thorne, who broke the Canadian record. The defending champion Aleksandr Ivanov (RUS) was entered but did not start. All the walks at Beijing 2015 included 1637m in the stadium, then laps of a circuit on Hujing East Road, then 363m back to the stadium. For the 20Km there were 18 laps of 1Km, and for the 50Km it was 24 laps of 2Km. | |||
