Overview by IAAF | |||
Cheruiyot led at 200m in the final (25.06 by photo-cell) before Rudisha took control as the pace slowed. The fourth 100m section was covered in only 14.84, giving a bell time of 54.15 by photo-cell (or 54.17 by transponder). Five metres covered first to last before Rudisha increased the tempo on the last backstraight. Kszczot also accelerated and unsuccessfully attempted to overtake the Kenyan on the inside at around 550m. The Pole continued to chase to the finish, but there was no catching Rudisha who clocked 12.08 for his last 100m. Tuka ran his own last 100m even quicker (12.02) to edge past Cheruiyot for the bronze. Defending Champion Aman would have been a finalist again, but was disqualified for obstruction in his semi-final. | |||
