| As in the Beijing 5000m (and indeed the Moscow 10,000m), the pace was set by the Japanese, this time Takashima and Ohara. Halfway was reached in 16:11.99 by transponder. The pace was raised marginally over the next 4000m, but with two laps to go there were still nine in contention – three each from Kenya, Ethiopia and the USA. Huddle forced the pace until 300m remained, when Burka and Cheruiyot took over. The Kenyan proved stronger, with a last 100m in 14.5. The DOHA 2019 PAST RESULTS/WORLD CHAMPS WOMEN’S 10,000m 289 Kenyan covered her final 400m in 60.43 compared with Burka’s also excellent 61.09. A parallel burn-up for the bronze looked set to be won by Huddle, but she made the mistake of easing up before the line. Infield nipped past on her inside to snatch third place. |
