Overview by IAAF | |||
Fraser-Pryce’s reaction to the gun in the final was slow, but her pickup was extraordinary. She was clearly in the lead by 10m, and was more than a metre clear by halfway, with Schippers leading the chase from Ahye and Bowie. The Dutchwoman had broken her national record with 10.83 in the semi-finals. Now she clocked 10.81 after closing to within half a metre of the Jamaican at the finish. Bowie also finished strongly to take third place. For Fraser-Pryce it was a record third 100m world title, her only regret being that she had been unable to duck below 10.70. In the semi-finals, Moscow silver medallist Ahouré became the first woman to be eliminated with a time of less than 11 seconds. | |||
