Overview by IAAF | |||
This event was disastrous for the world’s strongest nation at the discipline, the United States. Two of their potential World Champions went out in the semi-finals. First Harper Nelson fell, then Harrison falsestarted. In the final, defending champion Rollins led at the first hurdle, but she hit that barrier and lost crucial momentum. The USA’s loss was Jamaica’s gain. The lead passed to Danielle Williams, whose elder sister Shermaine was also in the race. D Williams and Porter led until the eighth hurdle, where the Briton faltered and the Jamaican moved clear. Roleder and Talay closed, with the German swooping in from lane 8 to snatch the silver. | |||
