Overview by IAAF | |||
For the first time in World Championship history, six jumpers cleared 1.99. As the contenders began their next round of jumps at 2.01, the lead was held by Liwinko, Kuchina and then the oft injured Vlašic. The Croatian was the first to clear, followed by Kuchina, and then, with her second jump, Chicherova. Now Kuchina was ahead on countback. Vlašic and Chicherova, who between them had won three of the four previous titles, were in second and third. The Croat was particularly proud of her result, having made a very late decision to compete in Beijing because of a severe problem with her right Achilles tendon. None of the others were able to clear 2.01, and when the top three failed at 2.03, Kuchina had won. The 22 year-old had cleared 2.01 indoors in 2014, but her jump here was an outdoor personal best. This was the only event in Beijing 2015 where Russian women won medals. | |||
