Overview by IAAF | |||
Olympic Champion McLeod led the final from the gun, with defending champion Shubenkov his closest pursuer. The Jamaican hit hurdle six quite hard, but still managed to improve his speed on the approach to hurdle seven. He went on to draw clear from the Russian, who was the cleanest hurdler of the race. As his country had been suspended from international athletics since November 2015, Shubenkov became the first “Authorised Neutral Athlete” to win a World Championships medal. Darien moved into third place but struck the last three barriers, and was pipped for the bronze by the longer-striding Baji, who won Hungary’s first ever world track medal. The biomechanics from Leeds Beckett University reported there were three right-leg lead men in the final ... and all three won medals. | |||
