Overview by IAAF | |||
Experience counted in the cool conditions with the gold and silver medals going to the same women as in the London Olympics five years earlier. Pearson’s victory was especially sweet as she’d broken her wrist in 2015 and missed the Rio Olympics with a hamstring injury. The favourite had been world record holder Harrison, but she hit a hurdle in her semi-final and only made the final as the slowest time qualifier. The American had a good start in the final, but then completely knocked over hurdles 2-3-4. Meanwhile Pearson had no hurdle contact for the entire race. Dutkiewicz was a surprise bronze medallist as Harrison recovered well to salvage fourth place. | |||
