Overview by IAAF
Just as in the 100m, Ta Lou was quickest into her running in the final but lost the race by a whisker. The Ivorian was overtaken by Schippers at the end of the turn, with Asher-Smith a clear third, a metre ahead of the rest of the field. Only Gaither was out of contact. Ta Lou battled with Schippers for the entire second half, with the Dutch star retaining her title only by dipping well at the line. MillerUibo progressed from fifth to third with a 10.79 second half ahead of Asher-Smith. For the Briton it was a minor triumph, as she had broken a bone in her foot in February, and only returned to racing in July. The US fielded just two women after new 100m champion Tori Bowie withdrew from her heat. “She continues to recover from her fall at the conclusion of the women’s 100m final,” explained US Track & Field.
